Deceased Clay is one of the Original Nine and was the youngest one. He married Gemma after she divorced John Teller. To this union were born three boys and a girl. CJ, Jock, Rade and Raven. The youngest two being twins. Clay is getting deeper and deeper into the outlaw part, and is changing. He has been president ever since John Teller died. He suffers from osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis) in his hands, which is slowly worsening. He makes several attempts to hide it from his brothers to protect his position as President, as a rule among members of the Sons of Anarchy prevents members from leading if they can't hold the grip of their motorcycle and ride effectively. Clay turned traiter to the club and to his family and met Mr Mayhem.

President Jax is the son of John Teller, founder of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club. This life is all he has ever known. He married his high school sweetheart, Tara Knowles and is the father of two boys, Abel and Thomas. Tara has left him and the two boys.
Vice President Opie is the son of co-founder Piney. He lost his first wife Donna on the orders of Clay. Only it should have been him and not Donna that Tig hit. Since then he has married Lyla, a porn star. He has two children Kenny and Ellie. He and Jax have been best friends since childhood. He’s the explosive expert of the club.

First 9 Piney is a co-founder of SAMCRO and father of Opie Winston. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and must carry an oxygen tank with him at all times due to emphysema. He had Opie with his ex-wife Mary. He also has a seventeen year old daughter Angel. Who is Tig Trager’s niece.

Sgt. At Arms Tig is a member of SAMCRO, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He is one of the club's more violent members, who has on occasion mentioned disturbing parts of his past. He has two daughters Dawn and Fawn who he hardly ever sees. His sister Rose died at the hands of her husband not that long ago. Her daughter Angel is now his responsibility, and she definitely has him wrapped around her little finger.
Secretary Bobby is the even-tempered Treasury Secretary of SAMCRO. Though he frequently maintains calm among the group, Bobby is more than capable of doing violence. He was once married to Precious Ryan and she is the mother of their son Tiki. Munson's father was an accountant in Reno, Nevada, and kept two sets of books for the Mafia. Bobby apparently learned accounting from him. He is Jewish and does Elvis Presley impersonations in Lake Tahoe, leading to him sometimes being referred to as Elvis.

Deceased Chibs is originally from Glasgow, Scotland but grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and served as a medic with the British Army. This, however, only lasted five months and Chibs was expelled after a court martial. His battlefield experience makes him the club's medic for backroom emergency surgery. The word "chib" is Scottish street slang for a blade, a slash or a cut. Chibs was originally a member of the True IRA, but a conflict with Jimmy O'Phelan over his wife Fiona ended with Chibs receiving a prominent facial scar and being forced to leave Ireland. Chibs died in retaliation.

Full Patch Juice is the club's hacker and intelligence officer. He has proven to be somewhat simple-minded when it comes to other tasks, often garnering him hazing from the other members. He is also in charge of club surveillance and manages some of the club's intelligence and communication. He is seen as unreliable by Clay Morrow, the ex club president, and is often given menial tasks such as driving the transport truck. He sports a short mohawk and has Tribal designs tattooed on each side of his head.

Full Patch Half Sack served in the United States Army during the Iraq War. He lost a testicle while serving in Iraq, prompting the nickname "Half-Sack". A surprisingly formidable fighter, he was also the Junior Lightweight Champion of the Armed Forces boxing competition. After leaving the military, he began prospecting for the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club and works as a mechanic at Teller-Morrow Automotive Repair. He is also a vegetarian.
Full Patch "Big Otto" Delaney is a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club. Delaney was born in Colma, California on September 29, 1963 and was a member of the Sons of Anarchy's Charming chapter. He is currently imprisoned in Stockton state prison on charges of second-degree murder and vehicle theft, but is still in contact with the club. He is a powerful man on the inside and is the leader of the "Big House Crew", a gang made up of imprisoned Sons of Anarchy members. His "old lady" is Luann with whom he is deeply in love. Otto has Luann's name tattooed on his left arm.

Road Captain Happy is a member of the Redwood Original charter of the club. Formerly part of the Tacoma & Nomad charters. Happy is a ruthless killer and sports a happy face tattoo for each one of his assassinations. Like Tig he is looked to for the jobs for which no one else has the stomach for. He's in a Unholy one and Men of Mayhem.

Full Patch Herman Kozik is a thick, blond, brute force, ex-Marine. Member of the Tacoma, Washington charter of SOA. Bad blood between him and Tig. Get's patched in while Tig is in jail.

Prospect Miles assisted the club with tasks such as cleaning the clubhouse, providing backup when they broke into Salazar's house, and watching Gemma to make sure she didn't leave the clubhouse when she was hiding from the law.

Prospect "Filthy" Phil was one of three new prospects taken on after Half Sack was patched in. He is seen helping around the clubhouse and running errands with the members who stayed behind.
Gemma is the wife of Clay Morrow, widow of John Teller, and mother of Jax Teller, CJ, Jock, Rade and Raven Morrow. She is the matriarch of the Sons of Anarchy Redwood Original chapter, unapologetic in the lengths she'll go to in order to protect the club and beloved by all of its members. Gemma has a scar on her chest which is explained when her grandson Abel has surgery. Gemma has a genetic heart disorder from her mother's side which she passed on to her children - Thomas died in 1990 from complications of the disorder, and Abel nearly died from heart complications after his premature birth. Only one of the Morrow children born with it was the youngest and only daughter Raven. Gemma has taken off for parts unknown to deal with what happened to her family.
Tara is a native of Charming, California. (She says her heritage is half-Irish.) Her mother died when she was nine years old. She was Jax Teller's high-school girlfriend, and during this era she had a crow tattooed on her lower back representing her connection to SAMCRO. Tara was arrested in Jax's company at least three times in 1996. Tara left town when Jax was 19, trying to get away from small-town life and the influence of the club. According to his mother Gemma, this all but broke Jax's heart. She works as a pediatric resident at the local hospital, St. Thomas. She is Jax’s old lady now and step-mother to his son Abel and currently expecting a child. Tara has left Jax and accepted the job offer in Providence Oregon leaving them all behind.

Wendy Case is Jax Teller's ex-wife and the biological mother of Abel Teller. Wendy intentionally became pregnant, in hopes that it would keep Jax with her. She is a drug addict who used methamphetamine during her pregnancy, which nearly killed Abel.

Cherry is a girl from Indian Hills, Nevada whose real name is Rita Zambell. After leaving her abusive husband and burning down their condo, she aligns herself with the Devil's Tribe (a friendly independent MC now "patched over" to the Sons of Anarchy) and calls herself Cherry (after her beloved dead dog), posing as a "hangaround." She takes an interest in Half-Sack when SAMCRO comes to visit but sleeps with Clay, who wants to punish Half-Sack for voicing his sexual attraction to Gemma. Cherry later comes to Charming looking for Half-Sack and begins dating him after gaining permission from Gemma and clearing up what happened between her and Clay at the Devil's Tribe patch over party.
Lyla Dvorak-Winston is a porn star employed by Luann Delaney and is introduced in season 2. She and Opie begin to grow close after they first meet. Like Opie, Lyla is a single parent and she helps him with his children. Opie's involvement with Lyla was not entirely welcome by some, particularly Gemma and Tara, who initially are unable to look past Lyla's profession. Her son’s name is Piper.

Mary Winston is Piney Winston's ex-wife and the mother of Opie. She moved away from Charming and took Opie with her after divorcing Piney. However, she returns to temporarily look after her grandchildren when Opie is arrested. She is shown consoling the distraught Piney after Donna's murder.
Charming PD Chief Wayne Unser owns Unser Shipping, a trucking company, and is not above using the SOA for protection and other questionable activities related to his business. He is an ally of Clay Morrow, a longtime resident of Charming, and cares for the town deeply. He seems to think the SOA is good for Charming, or at least a necessary evil. He is suffering from cancer, which is forcing him into retirement, something Clay Morrow does not want to see. It is revealed that Unser is married to a Native American woman when he confronts Darby at the jail house. He has two daughters and is a Vietnam veteran who served (according to his wall decorations) in the 1st Armored Division. He uses marijuana for relief of cancer pain. He has known Gemma from the time she was twelve years old as she has a long history of clashing with the law. He loves Gemma in a romantic fashion.

Charming PD Deputy Chief David Hale's nickname from Chief Unser is "Captain America" for his black and white views and squeaky clean image (prior to his involvement with L.O.A.N. and sexual encounter with an ATF agent), adherence to the law and, possibly, because of his square-jawed all-American looks. He is a native of Charming, California, who knew of SAMCRO while he was growing up and who delivered newspapers to the Teller household. His father is a county judge and a very powerful and wealthy man. David also has an older brother, Jacob, Jr. He is next in line for the chief job once Wayne Unser retires. Unlike Unser, Hale wishes to purge the town of SAMCRO upon becoming police chief.

ATF Agent Agent June Stahl is an ATF agent investigating the club's involvement in arms trafficking after Deputy Chief Hale calls in the ATF in retaliation because Chief Unser did not retire as previously expected. Stahl has an affair with Deputy Chief David Hale during her investigation of SAMCRO, but calls off the investigation and is shunned by Hale when she inadvertently causes the murder of Donna Winston. Stahl is also bisexual; she seduced Hale and had an on-going affair with another female ATF agent.

Lieutenant Eli Roosevelt is a member of the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department. Prior to his assignment in Charming, he spent fifteen years in Oakland working as part of an anti-gang task force. He is a strict, no-nonsense officer. He's known to be an un-corruptable officer and has a strong sense of moral justice.

County Sheriff Victor "Vic" Trammel is the local county sheriff and, in addition to being on the payroll of SAMCRO, he appears to have a great deal of insider information on their illicit activities. A close friend of his is murdered by survivalists using guns provided by the Sons, having Vic seriously questioning his ties to the club.
Mechanic Lowell Harland, Jr. is a second-generation mechanic at Teller-Morrow Automotive Repair and a drug addict. He is not a member of the motorcycle club. His father was killed by the Sons for betraying them but Lowell initially did not know the truth. This is Clay's version of events he tells to Lowell Jr., however, a discussion between Clay and Gemma implies that Lowell Sr. was implicated in something far more secret. When his father's body was found in a grave along with the bodies of Mayans, Clay worried he might give information about the club to the ATF. Clay goes to Lowell's apartment to kill him but, after telling him the truth about his father's death, decides not to. Lowell has a son of his own named Moby. Most recently, he was present and appeared sober at the coming home party for Abel, Jax's son.

Mayor Jacob Hale, Jr. is a businessman and older brother of Deputy Chief David Hale. He has brought in Ethan Zobelle and L.O.A.N. into Charming as a means of getting SAMCRO out of the town.

Bookeeper Chuck "Chucky" Marstein is a prison friend of Otto's who was a bookkeeper for a Triad gang. Chuck was shown to be regularly beaten by Triads in the prison so Otto arranged for SAMCRO to protect Chuck upon release in exchange for a large sum of money that Chuck claimed was hidden in the kitchen of a Triad restaurant. However, Chuck proved to be rather paranoid and also afflicted with compulsive masturbation disorder that reared itself at inopportune times.

HospitalAdministrator Margaret Murphy is an administrator at St. Thomas and disapproves of Tara's relationship with Jax and the Sons of Anarchy. Margaret reveals to Tara that when she was younger, she was together with a reckless biker and that after he died from a drug overdose, she turned her life around and the tattoo is to remind her that she has left that life behind. She seems to develop a much more friendly relationship with Tara. She gives Tara an excellent recommendation to a hospital in Providence, Oregon.

Businessman Elliott Oswald is a prominent businessman and ranch owner in Charming. He claims his family has been in Charming longer than SAMCRO, and that he had trouble getting along with SAMCRO.

Teenager Tristen Oswald is the daughter of Elliott Oswald. She is a shy girl and very sweet. She was beaten and raped at Fun Town, Charming's local carnival by one of the carnies dressed as a clown.
